A Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese Sandwich combines two of my favorite things, unbelievably tender pulled pork and ooey gooey grilled cheese sandwiches!! Sweet and tender pulled pork with deli style cheddar cheese between two slices of grilled ciabatta bread creates the best grilled cheese.
Ingredients
- Bread, Sliced 2 each
- Cheddar Cheese, Slice 1 each
- Pulled Pork 2 oz
- Butter 1 Tablespoon
- BBQ Sauce 1 Tablespoon
Instructions
- Gather all of your ingredients to make your ultimate grilled cheese sandwich.
- Start by buttering one side of each piece of bread.
- Flip one of the pieces of bread over so the butter side is on the bottom and the un-buttered side is facing up.
- Place a layer of cheddar cheese on-top of the bread.
- Next, add a layer of shredded pulled pork on to the cheese.
- Top the pulled pork with a touch of your favorite BBQ sauce.
- Finally, place the second piece of bread on to the BBQ pulled pork so the buttered side is up. In a griddle pan, cook about 2 minutes on each side over medium-to-medium low heat until browned on both sides. Use the griddle weight if available.
Notes
Best Bread for Grilled Cheese
My favorite bread for grilled cheese sandwiches is ciabatta bread. A tender crust and a soft inside bread make the best sandwiches!! Traditional Italian bread also works great to make this BBQ pulled pork grilled cheese. Any artisan bread works great!! Just explore your bakery section at your favorite store to find the right bread.
What Cheese Goes Best with Pork?
Cheddar is a classic cheese to top pork with. The ultimate grilled cheese with pulled pork consists of several different cheeses. Your options are endless but some of my favorite are cheddar, American, Colby jack, mozzarella, provolone, swiss, gouda and even Velveeta cheese. Artisan cheeses are the best!! Mixing and matching different cheese will give you a completely remarkable tasting sandwich every time.
How to Cook a Pulled Pork Grilled Cheese Sandwich – 7 Different Ways.
- Griddle Pan – Cook about 2 minutes on each side over medium-to-medium low heat until browned on both sides. Use the griddle weight if available.
- Sauté/Skillet Pan – Cook about 2 minutes on each side over medium-to-medium low heat until browned on both sides. Cover with a lid the last minute to help the cheese melt and warm up the pulled pork.
- Baked – Place your buttered sandwich on a baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 450° F. Bake for approximately 5 minutes. Next, flip the grilled cheese sandwich over. Finally, bake an additional 3 to 4 minutes until the bread is golden brown.
- Air Fryer – Place your buttered cheese sandwich into the air fryer basket making sure that one of the buttered sides are down and the other buttered side is up. Set the air fryer to 350° for 5 minutes. Flip the sandwich over and air fry for another 3 minutes. You might have to adjust the cooking time accordingly because air fryers do not all cook the same.
- Griddle Cooking – My favorite way to make a pulled pork grilled cheese sandwiches is on our Blackstone Griddle. On medium, heat the griddle up. Once the griddle is hot, place the buttered bread onto the flat-top. Cook 3-5 minutes until golden brown. Flip over and continue cooking for another 3-5 minutes.
- George Foreman Grill – Once the griddle is hot, place the buttered bread onto the flat-top. Cook 3-5 minutes until golden brown.
- On-The-Grill – Preheat the grill on medium heat. Carefully, place the buttered sandwiches onto the grates of the grill and cook about 5 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
