Ingredients:
1-2 packages slider buns or dinner rolls (King’s Hawaiian rolls are a popular choice for this!)
2-3 tablespoons unsalted butter (or your preferred cooking oil like olive oil, avocado oil)
Equipment:
Blackstone Griddle
Spatula or tongs
Instructions:
Prepare the Blackstone: Preheat your Blackstone griddle to low to medium-low heat. You want it warm enough to toast, but not so hot that it burns the bread quickly. Bread can toast very fast, so lower heat gives you more control.
Slice the Buns (if necessary): If your buns are not already pre-sliced for sliders, carefully slice them horizontally through the middle, creating a top half and a bottom half. You can toast them as whole sheets (like in your image) or separate them. To achieve the consistent browning shown, toasting them in their connected sheets is ideal.
Melt the Butter: Add the butter to the preheated griddle. Once it melts, use your spatula to spread it evenly over the section where you plan to place the buns. You want a thin, even layer of butter.
Place the Buns: Carefully place the cut-side down (or the bottom side down if toasting the whole sheet from the bottom first) onto the buttered section of the griddle.
Toast: Let the buns toast for 2-4 minutes. Keep a close eye on them! The time will vary depending on your griddle’s heat and how golden you want them. You’re looking for a beautiful golden-brown color and a slightly crispy texture.
Flip (Optional, for top side): If you want to toast both sides, once the first side is golden, carefully flip the buns over and toast the other side for another 1-2 minutes, or until warmed through and lightly toasted. For slider buns, often just toasting the cut side is sufficient.
Serve: Remove the toasted buns from the griddle immediately and serve warm with your favorite burgers, pulled pork, BBQ chicken, or as dinner rolls with a meal.
Tips for Success:
Watch Carefully: Bread can go from perfectly toasted to burnt very quickly on a griddle. Don’t walk away!
Adjust Heat: If they are browning too fast, lower the heat. If they aren’t browning, increase it slightly.
Butter vs. Oil: Butter adds a richer flavor, but oil works well too and can prevent sticking.
Don’t Overcrowd: Give the buns some space on the griddle for even toasting.
